We are now looking for a senior researcher who wants to take a key role in our investment in wood analysis and forestry research.

About us The Wood Technology Research Unit belongs to the Building and Property Department within the Division of Civil Engineering at RISE. RISE has more than 130 testbeds and demo environments, and at our unit, we are proud to have a testbed for wood and fiber properties at our disposal, along with its world-unique instrument (SilviScan) for efficient analysis of a large number of properties of wood and wood fibers important for industry and research. The laboratory performs high-resolution wood characterization within tree breeding and genetic studies in collaboration with researchers from academia or research institutes. The purpose of the samples analyzed is to study tree growth in relation to forest management and plant breeding, with the goal of developing trees that are better adapted to climate change and their planned end use. Our customers range from the forestry sector to the paper and pulp industry. About the role As a senior researcher, you will play a central role in coordinating and driving research projects related to our wood analysis laboratory in Stockholm. In this role, you will contribute to the wood-related analysis and be responsible for the research, supported by a team of experienced researchers and laboratory staff. You will play a key role in further developing and strengthening both research and business operations. The lab is part of the unit's focus area and is expected to grow in scope and direction, providing great opportunities to influence its development.

The work includes project management of research projects and assignments, as well as creating new business opportunities in the lab. You will maintain and develop customer relationships and build long-term collaborations, both nationally and internationally. An important part of the role is to write applications for research funding and expand the international network, including customers with materials from sources other than wood fiber.

This is a stimulating role in a research environment with great opportunities to influence and develop the operations. You will have access to a strong network within the forestry industry and academia, with opportunities for international collaborations and innovative research projects.

The position requires you to be regularly present in Stockholm. With our current hybrid working model, part of the work can be done remotely from your home office.

Who are you? You are a communicative person who enjoys nurturing relationships and actively seeking new collaboration opportunities, both nationally and internationally. You are solution-oriented and have the ability to identify business opportunities and drive development. Furthermore, you take initiative and have a strong drive to contribute to the continued progress of research and the lab.

Requirements for the role:

  • A relevant master's degree for the research area
  • Many years of experience in the forestry industry in one or more areas such as sawmills, paper/pulp, forestry, tree breeding
  • Good experience in publishing scientific articles
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English in both spoken and written form

Desirable qualifications for the role:

  • Established network within the forestry industry
  • International network within academia
  • PhD in bio-based materials or similar
